II. WE’RE GOING ON AN ADVENTURE

Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of my favorite authors. He’s also highly prolific, releasing several novels each year. My personal favorite by him is Children of Ruin, which features an unsettling, but ultimately sympathetic monster that craves knowledge and connection. This story's similarities with Frankenstein were striking to me, and were a useful lens through which to view the evolution of the genre of sci-fi as a whole. So, as the monster from Children of Ruin would say, “Let’s go on an adventure!”
